2 commentsAssigned Winter Break Reading
From the New York Times:
1 commentBright letters announce “New Photography 2007” on a wall outside the Museum of Modern Art’s photography galleries. Just inside is a room of vintage-looking black-and-white photographs. Contemporary photographers are showing a strong interest in early photography, so your first thought is that the curator has unearthed someone recycling the ideas and methods of Eadweard Muybridge, Alfred Stieglitz or Clarence White.
But no. These are pictures by Muybridge, Stieglitz and White. Keep walking; the annual showcase of emerging photographers is in the next room. After that accidental spark of excitement, though, the show itself is something of a letdown.

Tonight: Castleberry Hill & Films at the High
If anyone still in town is looking for a Friday night activity, Stacy, Eric and I will be at Castleberry Hill around 8pm tonight for the openings. Afterwards we’ll head to eat as usual, but Denise just alerted me about something at the High tonight, which I believe I might be part of as well:
I would like to invite you tonight to the High Museum. It will be a films projection until 2 in the morning. The films start at 11pm ( I will be at 10PM) and Audrey Ward and I have films. I know more SCAD students too. So please if you can come to support us.
I’m in… anyone else?
No commentsCatlin rocks SCAD ATL Radio

Tonight at 6pm Catlin and co-host Derek will be rocking SCAD ATL radio. Tune in and check it out. Catlin says she’ll be playing “pretty much the coolest music ever, so don’t be lame and not tune in”
Saturday Openings
Because the school is closed, it is likely that we will meet at our first opening each time we go out as a group. So tonight we will meet at Timothy Tew. Here’s the schedule:
- Timothy Tew, 20th Anniversary Party - 7pm
- Defoor Centre, Off the Wall: 100 Artists for 100 Bucks - 7:30pm(ish)
Defoor doesn’t actually begin until 7:30pm, so our schedule is a bit flexible. Also, it turns out that RSVP was required to get into Kofke’s show, unless you wait until 11pm, and then you have to pay $10. In all likelihood, we’ll probably just go eat after Defoor. Still, keep it in mind if you’re looking for something to do.
1 commentTonight at Jackson Fine Art
For those of you still in town, we’re going to Jackson Fine Art’s opening of Joel Meyerowitz’s old and new(ish) work. We are meeting at Jackson around 7pm (the opening is from 6-8pm). We cannot meet at the school because it will be closed by that time.

Don’t be late, their set is only 30minutes! They open for Cass McCombs & Ariel Pink, http://www.badearl.com/. Tickets are $10.
They are also playing Nophest on December 8th, http://nophest.com/. More details later.
Kofke’s Got a Show + Defoor + TEW
Our good friend Jason Kofke, fellow printmaker/painter/photographer and all-around good guy e-mailed me the following today:
Me, Chad, and Kate (an alum) are in a local show this Saturday night with lots of free food and drink and music. Go to www.inhabitatlanta.com and click on the groove in atlanta thing at the top of the page. All the info is there.
And behold, here is the link he was referring to. So if you can, make it out Saturday night. Werd.
UPDATE: We’re also going to attend an opening at the Defoor Centre, featuring the work of our own Kyle Petersen and Rebecca Stern. We might also hit up the 20th Anniversary Party at TEW Galleries. More details to come.
3 commentsA Blog You Should Be Reading
If you’re not familiar with New York gallerist Edward Winkleman’s blog, you should be. Along with Alec Soth’s (lately silent) blog, it’s one of my every day reads. He consistently provokes interesting discussion and gives a lot of insight into the Chelsea gallery scene. Check it out.
No commentsPhotographer for Billboard Hip Hop Awards
Hey Everybody,
I was contacted by someone needing a photographer and videographer for the billboard hip hop awards on November 30th. It is unpaid but you would have an all access pass and get photo/video credit on the website it will be posted on (Hollyscoop.com). Let me know ASAP if you are interested and will give you the contact info.
