Lecture at Georgia State
There is a lecture at 4pm today at Georgia State University, by Marcia E. Vetrocq, Senior Editor of Art in America. Obviously this one will be hard to make, as it happens during classes, but make it if you can.

(Hey) Hot Shots(!)
How did I/we miss this? Both our own Robert Gill (above) and Karen Williams (below) were featured on the Hey Hot Shot! blog this month.

No commentsShow and Tell IV at Eyedrum
Sounds like an interesting opportunity…
Saturday November 3, 1-5pm
“This was/is your only chance in 2007 for an open conversation with art curators at Eyedrum. Show and tell is just that. You, the artist brings some images or even real work to Eyedrum and then, tell us about it. We’ll listen, and take notes! If we think it has potential for a show, we will make it happen.
This opportunity is mostly to meet candidates for one-month solo shows in our small gallery. It is humble is size but ample in imagination. Perfect for bustling installations or intimate gestures. Mailed submissions are always welcome for group/curated shows or for our larger gallery spaces. See our website for further details. http://eyedrum.org/submitProposal.asp
If you are looking for an opportunity to break into the art world or even been here done that, show and tell is a fun way to test new ideas and get real feedback. I hope you’ll stop by and show me something new.
details:
+A sign-up list will be crafted on nov 3, based upon arrival (first come, first served)
+Sign-ups are open 1-5 and the event will run until all names are crossed off
+Bring an identifying piece of paper for Eyedrum art to keep - must include: Name, e-mail, phone number, some indication of what you presented.”

No commentsSCAD 24 hour challenge animation
As part of the SCAD 24 hour challenge my team and I created this animation
No commentsWhat awesome? Jason Awesome.
I just got a call from Gallery RFD in the art capital of Swainsboro, Georgia where I submitted some images for their portraiture show last week.
At least one picture of mine was accepted, this one…
They also wanted to let me know that it was chosen as…
Best in Show!
So that is pretty amazingly awesome. And I get $150. I think that’s the first time since high school that I’ve gotten any money for “art.”
I feel pretty good about myself right now, so please excuse the bragging.
I have to figure out how to tell my sister-in-law because I’m afraid it’s not a very flattering picture of her. But it’s Art so that’s okay, right? And I’ll explain the art-critical concept of the Object. I’m sure she’ll understand.
Show opens November 10, nice of them to do it on my birthday!

Allan deSouza’s Orientalism
Review by Rebecca Stern
Allan deSouza has incorporated a variety of differing tools in his photography/mixed media. His lecture Rituals in Transfigured Time, presented at Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta on October 3, showcased many different series of his works. DeSouza described both the techniques he used as well as more in-depth interpretations that focused on the unwritten histories hidden in the images.
His series Threshold includes 24 images of airports, train and bus stations. The series focused on waiting areas and transitions between places in time where one has left behind the familiar, but has not yet arrived at the new venue. DeSouza mentioned that he wanted the viewers to imagine a first encounter with a new place and how they might emotionally engage with the physical space presented. The goal of the work is to demonstrate the promise of the West and this goal is achievable if we use Orientalism as the primary interpretation tool.
