Tonight @ the W Hotel
If you were planning on coming out to my show at the W Hotel, but you were concerned about traffic, have no fear. I am taking MARTA to the Dunwoody Station, which just so happens to be at Perimeter Mall, which just so happens to be across the street from the W Hotel Perimeter Center.
Now, if you, like my crazy wife, are just going to drive, good luck. Instead of $5 valet parking, you can still park across the street at the mall.
And guess what? Tonight they’re serving free premium vodka at the opening. So again, MARTA can be your friend. TAKE MARTA.
No commentsWill Make Your Week . . .
The internet is plastered with little videos that will make your day. Sometimes one of them is so great you will keep coming back to it day after day. Last week this was that video for me.
No commentsmy opinion
I just want to go on the record here and say that 4×5 Kodachromes are the most beautiful things ever. Period. You may disagree, but then you’d be wrong.

Hello Friends! I am going to be taking classes full-time from now on and am wondering if anyone has a studio/darkroom that they would like to share with me! I would love to not have to cart stuff back and forth everyday! I promise I am neat and won’t take up much space!! Let me know!
No commentsForget Nikon, New Canon cameras!
Canon’s got a new MarkIII, 21.1 megapixels. 14-bit, 3″ LCD, 5 fps, full-frame sensor. Lovely. Yeah, yeah, so it’s $8K.
Guy can dream, can’t he?
They’ve also released the 40D, which is a small step up from the 30D.

If you don’t already know Dane, he’s an alum from Savannah who now works in the SCAD-Atlanta Campus Photography Department with Ben. You should all get to meet him this fall, as he will likely hang out with us. Here’s an e-mail he sent out:
3 commentsHey Guys and Gals,
I know there’s been a bit of back-and-forth about a Paintball trip, but here’s the skinny:
WHEN: Sunday, Sept 9. (I know I said maybe the 3rd, but the field isn’t open Labor Day)
WHERE: Classic Paintball, west off I-20. Their website is www.classic-paintball.com
COST: $35, includes marker rental, all day C02, and 500 roundsJust let me know if you’re in or not. I’d like to be able to get enough people so we can play as two teams against each other rather than against other teams already there. After all, it’s more fun to shoot at people you know! Get lots of friends together and email me back!

UnScene Atlanta This Friday
I’m in a show this Friday at the W Atlanta Perimeter Center Hotel from 6-9pm. I found out about the call for entries at the last minute, submitted work and got accepted. Four of the images from my “Homeland” series (yeah, that’s the new name for the work I’ve done over this past year) will be featured, and there’s an auction for the images. They start out pretty cheap, so it might be a good way to get some (I hope) decent work.
So this is my plea that whoever’s in town, please come to the opening. There’s only one catch: you must RSVP. You just have to send an e-mail to RSVP.01114@whotels.com. ALSO, there’s $5 valet parking (I don’t know if there’s another option) so let’s carpool. Stacy and I have 3 extra seats in our fancy pants new car. Ok, so we have to go pick up friends at the airport immediately after this, so we might not have time to take people back to the school. However, we could meet somewhere near the event and carpool from there.
If you RSVP (or plan to) please make a comment here too so we can get an idea of how many people will be going.
4 commentsSteve On Academia (In Video Form)
I was procrastinating paying my bills online today and found these rather interesting videos that Steve did for Big Red & Shiny. Watching all five short monologues will not only make you laugh but think as well. Not unlike the man hisself.
Photo Safari
Me and the lady are planning a day trip to see Rock City(!) and Ruby Falls on Saturday, Sept. 2. They are very near each other, a couple of hours away, just this side of Chattanooga.
The back seat is available, if anyone would like to come along…

Two new DSLRs… D300 and D3. Glad I didn’t buy that D200 this year!

In case you missed the last post (see below) Lindsay is playing this Wed. at Smith Olde Bar.

No commentsIntroduction: Karen Williams
Karen is a graduate transplant from Savannah. This will be her second year at SCAD, and she’s spending it with us in Atlanta. Rebecca, Zubair and I met Karen during the SCAD NY off-campus trip this summer, and apparently we convinced her Atlanta is awesome. Photo Awesome.
So this might be a new feature… we’ll see how it goes. But with Karen’s permission, I’m going to introduce you to her work. Here’s some bio/work info from Karen:
“I grew up as an army brat and spend most of child hood traveling from place to place. During this time I fell into photography by becoming the family photographer. I got my BFA in photography at St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX 2006. I’m currently working towards a MFA at SCAD. My images reflect the complexity of seemingly ordinary things found during my travels.”
Here are a few of my favorite images from her portfolio on Facebook:

Savannah

Atlanta

Texas
Seriously, isn’t that last image great?
3 commentsLindsay Appel @ Smiths Olde Bar Aug. 15

And now an open letter from Lindsay Appel herself:
“This is the first short reminder I’ll be sending out regarding my slot at Open Mic Madness. I perform at 8:45 pm SHARP on Wednesday, August 15th!! Please do stop by and support this show if you haven’t (or have!) come out to my shows before…it’s important-there will be music industry whizzes all around and I must impress! And the fans that show up can vote for their favorite act so basically, I need you friends!!
Please see my show listing on my profile for Smith’s address….and not to bribe you, but I will make cookies for anyone who shows up. Or I can sing a love song to your loved one for a special romantic evening? Or maybe pen you a poem to recite to your one and only?
Bottom line: I’d love to see you at Smith’s next Wednesday! Please get there early so we can chat before my playin’ time…”
No commentsVideo: I Love Slow Motion
This was at Whitney’s opening at TEW Galleries in July. I’ll be posting the actual video soon enough, but I have to admit, I am a total sucker for slowing things down. I mean, this has to be the funniest accident I’ve made in awhile. Ok, at least it’s funny to me.

Anybody want an enlarger? I need room, you need an enlarger, we have something to offer each other. Let me know.
[Edit: I chose a category. Two actually.]

Via Travis:
No commentsWe are looking for a SCAD student who is interested in doing a wedding shoot in Athens, GA on October 20th, 2007. The time would range anywhere from 4-8 hours depending on what we can negotiate. We would take into account travel and what not when negotiating a price. We would want to see examples of your work before we made a commitment. We would be willing to give you rights to use the pictures that you take for your portfolio. We are a young couple who have friends that went to SCAD and are aware of your talents and we think this could be win/win for both of us. Our experience with some “professional” photographers hasn’t been that great so we are looking for some skilled students who might be interested. Feel free to contact us at gtg242r at mail.gatech.edu with any questions. Thanks!
David and Patrice
