in case you missed it…

From this week’s SCAD updates…

“New York Times magazine features SCAD photography professor

A photo illustration by SCAD-Atlanta photography professor Suellen Parker was featured on the cover of the June 17 issue of The New York Times Magazine. It marked the third appearance of Parker’s work in the publication, but was the first time her work was commissioned to appear on the cover. Three additional images by Parker appear with the story “Doctor or Drug Pusher,” which explores Drug Enforcement Administration investigations of doctors who prescribe pain medicine. View Parker’s images at www.nytimes.com/2007/06/17/magazine/17pain-t.html

The Times also created a video documenting Parker’s creative process. It demonstrates the steps involved with each work, including creating clay sculptures, photographing the sculptures as well as human models and digitally editing the photographs by combining elements. In the video, Parker likens the final step of her process to painting. View the video here .

Parker is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York with a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography and digital media. Her work is part of the “Talent Show Biennial” on display at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center through Aug. 11.”

So ignore the fact that I don’t have any video editing software on my computer and that this is taken from my little camera. My brother is interviewing me too if anyone was wondering!

Video: Jen Bekman @ Spring 2007 Hey Hot Shot! Opening

My apologies for not having this video up sooner… work is under way for five videos from the New York trip last week. Also, I’m moving to New York in probably less than a week myself, so that may contribute slightly to the delay in having the posted. Just keep checking back and maybe one day you’ll be pleasantly surprised! Until then…

Your suspicion is justified

Study says Inkjet printers are filthy, lying thieves
“A new study says that on average, more than half of the ink from inkjet cartridges is wasted when users toss them in the garbage. Why is that interesting? According to the study, users are tossing the cartridges when their printers are telling them they’re out of ink, not when they necessarily are out of ink.”

Isidro’s Studio

Isidro, Steve and Robert

I’m working on the videos from the NY Trip last week, but I’m still waiting on some footage. So in the mean time, I’ll post a couple of images from the trip here and there. And by “from the trip”, I mean the one day I shot color that I already have developed.

This just happens to be in Isidro Blasco’s studio in Brooklyn, where I just found out the other day that I will be interning. I’m still looking for a place to live (somewhere near the L train, if possible) so if you know of anything, please let me know.

Friday Openings

Tonight is the last time I’ll for sure be able to go to any openings in Atlanta this summer. I leave for New York in the morning. So if anyone’s left in town (Jason? Valentina? Jeff?), are y’all interested in going out tonight?

Castleberry Hill is having its usual ArtWalk tonight. But before that, I’m interested in going to a gallery we’ve never visited before: Whitespace. It’s pretty close to Little 5 Points. Anyone up for it? I think you guys all have my cell if you wanna’ go.

PhotoAwesome.com Changes

UPDATE: The site should now be functional. It’s safe to make posts and comments again. Sorry for downtime. I think this new system should be a big improvement.

If you’ve posted on the site before, you will need to login (bottom of the navigation bar on the right) and update your profile. If you have any problems, let me know.

This is just a quick note about some changes that will be occurring on the site. I’m in the process of converting the site from its current content management system (MovableType v. 2.661) to Wordpress 2.2. This has become necessary because of various backend problems that I won’t bore you with. However, I will tell you that posters should now have a little more control, AND it should be easier to make entries. That means posting links and photos and (hopefully) video should be much easier. However, I’ve never used Wordpress before, so it’ll be a learning experience for all of us. I decided to change everything now because 1) I have the time, and 2) not many people seem to be updating/checking the site currently.

I generally get this kinda’ thing done in a day or so, so please bear with me and don’t post anything super urgent/important that can’t be lost in the move. If you have something that absolutely MUST be posted/commented on, e-mail me with it after you post it and I’ll try to make sure it makes the move.
