January Show!
I just got word that we can have a SCAD photo show at the Defoor Centre in January. I have an email address we can submit work to, I will try to find out how much space we have to work with. How do we want to do it? Give everyone a little space or all submit and have them jury it? Any thoughts? Peace,
Kyle
P.S. Happy Birthday Carla!
UPDATE now available.
6 commentsDecember First Friday
Even though school is out, a few of us are still going to be in town during the break. And although I’m one of the few, we will be out of town for the December First Friday (Dec. 1). Dave and Professor Elizabeth Turk will be going, so if anyone else is around, get in touch with them or me and we’ll get you set up.

New Design
As you can hopefully tell, the Photo Awesome Club web site has finally been designed. Hopefully you like it.
A few requests:
- Please limit image widths to no more than 400 pixels wide when embedding a photo. The design breaks otherwise.
- Please send me (Walker) a single photograph of yours for use as a header image (the image up top should rotate). Keep in mind that there must be a place for the text. I need a file roughly 1000px wide in highest quality jpg mode… that is, unless you have the perfect cropping (600px wide by 300px are the dimensions, if you’re wondering) and don’t want to relenquish control.
- To reiterate, yes, you can upload images to this site. Please be reasonable with your file sizes, and if you have an image that just has to be posted big, upload the big file, and then upload a smaller thumbnail as a link to it from the page.
- If any of this is confusing, ask me for help.
Thanks for contributing!

I know the Texas Photographic Society’s 22nd Annual Members Only Show sounds like a regional competition, and it is. But the membership of TPS is pretty large and includes people from all over the country and world (currently 1324 members from 48 states and 12 countries). The prizes aren’t awful either. The images from last year are posted online. The deadline for entries is November 20, 2006 and the juror is Photographer Kathy Vargas.

This is obviously after the fact, but SCAD-Atlanta held Open Studio Night on the 5th floor this past Thursday night, November 9th from 7-9pm. Hundreds of people attended and it was a lot of fun. Hopefully someone will post some photos soon, but for now, I’ll just post card all of the guests received as they entered the building.

All Eyez On Me
Yo! This Saturday, 11 November, is the opening of the All Eyez On Me exhibit at the Vaknin gallery on 905 Juniper St in Midtown ATL.
I don’t know about y’all but I’m so ready to go and just look.

PAC Meeting (for who missed out!)
Yeah mon, dig it… for those who missed the Photo Awesome Club meeting on 1 November 2006, here are a few notes to get you up to speed.
The meeting was held at 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday, 1 Nov.:
1. Officers were selected to help provide guidance and organization to our club.
- Walker is our President;
- Rebecca, Dave and Lee all make the Executive Committee;
- And me, Carla, decided to be the Secretary.
All of us, will be up to speed with the direction of the club, informed of happenings around ATL and good places to find photog resources. That is if you haven’t checked the website just yet.
2. This website will be the place for all check ups for PAC. E-mails will be dropped for when general meetings are going to happen but we aren’t going to take over your email with constant notes of gallery openings and anything else art related. That’s just too much going on. Check the site, bookmark it, tattoo it somewhere on your body. Those are the simplest things you can do for right now to keep up with PAC.
- BOOKMARK THIS: www.beyondmonochrome.com/pac
3. From 15-18 March, the SPE the Society for Photography Education Convention (SPE) will be held in Miami, FL. Man, I don’t know about you but I would like to check out Miami, maybe volunteer at the convention and get my way paid for, have a couple of professionals look at my portfolio and make some SERIOUS connects for my future as a photo educator and as a professional photographer. What y’all think about that? Seriously, it might be something we need to check out. Plus, it’s Miami! Food?! The Beach?! Oh wait, I almost forgot about the convention but hey! That’ll be there, too.
- FOR MORE INFO: see Elizabeth Turk for more information or visit the website: www.spenational.org/conference/conf2006/index.html
YEAAAH SHAWTY! That was great! Check out the PAC website for mose updates on what is going on in the Photography Department in SCAD-Atlanta. This is Carla and I’m the secretary and I’ll be write back.
Comments are off for this postPossible May Show
Hey Everybody,
I have located a place where we can probably have a SCAD photo show in May. It is at the Defoor Centre, just off of Howell Mills on Defoor road. Tim, the director of promotions said he would love to do a show of just SCAD students. It’s a little ways off obviously, but something to start thinking about.
1 commentCastleBerry Hill ArtStroll 11/03/2006
The Castleberry Hill ArtStroll is tomorrow (Friday) night, November 3rd, from 7-10pm. Based on previous experience, I think everyone who is interested should carpool and arrive early, as parking was a major issue for me last time.
So, the plan: Meet at the entrance level of the parking garage at the SCAD-Atlanta main building at 6:30pm. Call me with questions: (512) 576-7460
Also, following the ArtStroll, we can eat food.
