Does anyone know anything good and/or bad about the Pentax 645?  I’m looking at one and have done some research, but i’m just wondering other people’s thoughts…. and a good price range for a used one.  Any comments would be helpful.  Thanks!

Printer

Hey Everyone!

I’m looking for a reliable printer that is ideally Atlanta-based to print anything from a few thousand post cards and calendars to family portrait packages (8×10s, 5×7s, etc.)  I’ve been using an online company but does anyone has any recommendations in Atlanta/Savannah (or even internet-based)?  The company needs to be able to handle very large orders.  Thanks!

Presentation Materials

Last week I participated in the ACP Portfolio Review. It was a rewarding experience, if not monetarily or getting-a-show-wise, I learned a lot. One of my reviewers was Jorg Colberg, who writes the Conscientious blog. I had cards printed (that looked awesome) at overnightprints.com. I had also ordered tri-fold brochures from them, but there was a delay in printing. I ended up cancelling that order, going to Kinko’s and having double sided color copies made from the template I’d prepared for the professional printing. I cut and folded them myself. They looked good, but obviously home made with that cheap Kinko’s paper.

Today Colberg wrote about presentation materials, his impression, and their importance. My advice: Make sure you order everything you want WELL AHEAD of when you’ll need ‘em. It’s not the end of the world, but I sure would have preferred a more professional look to the one thing that I handed the reviewers to take away.

Framer job available

Jackson Fine Art is seeking a full time picture framer for gallery. Responsibilities include framing for exhibitions and for client purchases. Responsible for ordering frames and supplies. Framing experience required. Contact Courtney at JFA.

I’ve worked there this summer and this is a great opportunity to work at an important photography gallery. The job may be open as soon as September, so get on it.

To those about to die, we salute you!

I’ve been reading the Conscientious blog lately, and it’s full of good stuff. Today I came across this post about the value of attending portfolio reviews, much like several of us will be attending in just… 8 SHORT weeks!

I’m in. Who else?

I was accepted to the ACP Portfolio Review (yay!). Who else will be there?

And, for those who’ve participated in the past, what did you do to prepare? Any wisdom to share? What kinds of questions did you ask? What kinds of questions did jurors ask you?

Polanoid Project

I know everyone has played with a polaroid camera at some point. Well, if you have, and you didn’t really know what to do with the little things except tack them around your room, there is now a place where they can go forever. The Polanoid project is a website (and dedicated gallery www.polanoir.com) to preserving the exhibiting the art of the Polaroid. It’s kind of like a flickr page, except only for polaroids (and now analog film). The bonus is, if you get featured as the “Sited of the Day” there is a chance you can get shown in Vienna at the gallery Polanoir. check out the websites.

Ethics and Jill Greenberg

Most people know about Jill Greenberg and her series of crying children called, “End Times”.  This article, from slate magazine, that I came across is a very interesting discussion about her work and how photography is inherently exploitive.
