New Friday Plans

6pm: Meet at SCAD-Atlanta Parking Garage. Leave within a few minutes after 6.

First we’re going tto TEW Galleries, where it has been confirmed that Whitney Stansell is showing work tonight. Her opening is from 6-9pm, which is why we’re going there first.

Second, we can head straight to APG for the Push Pin Show. Make sure you have cash for putting up work. The doors open at 7:30pm and it’s first come first serve, so we should try to be as early as possible to this. Rebecca and Valentina are going up there between 6:30 and 7pm to get in line. I’m sure they will be able to gauge the line for us.

Following APG we can either go to Fay Gold Gallery (however, the opening ends at 8pm for some odd reason) or go straight to eat. We are doing something besides Mexican food tonight. Also, El Azteca has been making me sick lately… literally.

Busy Weekend

We have quite a busy one ahead of us… and it starts on Thursday. Here goes:

Thursday, Feb. 8:

Greta Pratt, Nineteen Lincolns
» Lecture by Greta Pratt - 7pm, Hill Auditorium, High Museum of Art, this lecture is sponsored by Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP).

Presented by the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and the High Museum of Art, photographer Greta Pratt will discuss her interest in historic iconography in America, in particular her monumental work Nineteen Lincolns, on view at the Contemporary through February 24. Nineteen Lincolns documents men who belong to the Association of Lincoln Presenters, a society dedicated to studying and portraying the life of Abraham Lincoln. While they each started this unusual occupation for a different reason, the men have all become completely immersed in the ideals of Abraham Lincoln and speak passionately about their relationship to him. Historian Howard Zinn has written that Pratt’s “extraordinary photographs give us glimpses of people and places that stimulate us to think about our history… Her point of view is delightfully antic and provocative.”

Free with High Museum admission. Free to High Museum and Contemporary members.

Friday, Feb. 9:

» TEW Galleries - opening 6-9pm. This one is especially important because fellow SCAD Grad (Painting) student Whitney Stansell is going to be in this show, and we need to show her support. We should go here first, then possibly head to…

» Fay Gold Gallery - 6-8pm, Thomas Ostenberg, Scultpure. If we don’t go here, then we can head straight to the…

» APG Push Pin Show - 7:30-10:00pm

Bring your un-matted images to the Opening and pin them up in the gallery. No more than three (3) 16”x20” prints (or equivalent amount of wall space) allowed per photographer. The show will be on view until February 17. All work can be for sale. APG does not charge commission on sales from the Push Pin Show.

Public: 10 dollars. Free if you become an APG member at the door.
APG Members: 5 dollars. Free if you renew or upgrade your APG membership.

Doors will remain locked until 7:30pm. No pictures will be put up early. Wall space is on a first come first come basis. Pizza and birthday cake.

There may be more, I’ll update this post if anything else comes up.

EDIT: Excessive amounts of Mexican food… and video.

Julian Cox, Curator of Photography of the High Museum of Art, and juror of APG’s current show “Out of the South”, will give a talk at the APG Gallery Friday night, February 2nd at 7:30pm. We will meet at the 5th floor computer lab and leave for APG at 7:15pm.

Map of Atlanta Galleries & Museums

I created a map of most of the galleries and museums we most often visit as a group tonight. Hopefully we can use this as a resource to find directions more easily. If you have a gallery, museum or something else that relates that you’d like me to add, just leave a comment.

December First Friday

Even though school is out, a few of us are still going to be in town during the break. And although I’m one of the few, we will be out of town for the December First Friday (Dec. 1). Dave and Professor Elizabeth Turk will be going, so if anyone else is around, get in touch with them or me and we’ll get you set up.

CastleBerry Hill ArtStroll 11/03/2006

The Castleberry Hill ArtStroll is tomorrow (Friday) night, November 3rd, from 7-10pm. Based on previous experience, I think everyone who is interested should carpool and arrive early, as parking was a major issue for me last time.

So, the plan: Meet at the entrance level of the parking garage at the SCAD-Atlanta main building at 6:30pm. Call me with questions: (512) 576-7460

Also, following the ArtStroll, we can eat food.
