HHS! Spring 2007 Call for Entries
The Hey Hot Shot! call for entries is out for the Spring 2007 Edition. I mention this because I entered last night and was featured as a contender on Jen Bekman’s Blog, Personism less than 12 hours later. The entry fee is pretty high ($60) but considering who will be seeing your work, it might just be worth it. I didn’t get picked last time I entered, and certainly don’t plan to get my hopes up early this time, but I figure the panel alone was worth the cost.

The deadline for submissions is Tuesday May 8, 2007 @ 11:59pm ET.

Availability for one intern
The Department of Photography is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student who is interested in assisting in the research that is required for the preparation of an exhibition entitled, Road to Freedom: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement, 1956–1968, which will be on view at the High Museum in the summer of 2008. The High’s exhibition is planned for 2008, which marks the fortieth anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. It will consist of an unprecedented gathering of approximately one hundred forty prints and related artifacts and ephemera, drawn primarily from the High’s collection but also including loans from important public and private collections. Many of the photographs have never been on public view. The photographs will have extensive captions providing information about the people and events portrayed, and explaining how the images were made and used. Calls for Entry from the CAA web site
After combing the CAA web site’s “Opportunities” section today, I plucked out the Calls for Entry that caught my eye. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it’s a starting point:
I would encourage everyone to look through each of those, as there are some significant people and places involved. Please let me know if this is helpful by leaving a comment. If no one really needs it, I won’t bother with posting these again. However, if it helps, I’d be more than happy to continue.
Alt Process Call for Entries
For those of you in the Alternative Process class this quarter (or those who have created alt process pieces), there is currently a call for entries by the Tilt Gallery in Phoenix, Arizona.
The show is called “Photography Re-Imagined” and the juror is France Scully Osterman who, together with her husband Mark Osterman, managed to revive the wet-plate collodion process for the masses, and now teaches it in workshops both on location and in the pair’s Rochester home/studio.

Texas Photographic Society: 22nd MOS
I know the Texas Photographic Society’s 22nd Annual Members Only Show sounds like a regional competition, and it is. But the membership of TPS is pretty large and includes people from all over the country and world (currently 1324 members from 48 states and 12 countries). The prizes aren’t awful either. The images from last year are posted online. The deadline for entries is November 20, 2006 and the juror is Photographer Kathy Vargas.
