This is just a quick note about some changes that will be occurring on the site. I’m in the process of converting the site from its current content management system (MovableType v. 2.661) to Wordpress 2.2. This has become necessary because of various backend problems that I won’t bore you with. However, I will tell you that posters should now have a little more control, AND it should be easier to make entries. That means posting links and photos and (hopefully) video should be much easier.
However, I’ve never used Wordpress before, so it’ll be a learning experience for all of us. I decided to change everything now because 1) I have the time, and 2) not many people seem to be updating/checking the site currently.
I generally get this kinda’ thing done in a day or so, so please bear with me and don’t post anything super urgent/important that can’t be lost in the move. If you have something that absolutely MUST be posted/commented on, e-mail me with it after you post it and I’ll try to make sure it makes the move.
Registration begins today for the ACP portfolio review. It seems like a really good opportunity, there are some big name reviewers. It is $150 and they are taking the first 60 photographers that register online, so move quickly. Adios.
hey folks.
My dad made it through his bypass surgery today.
The hardest parts over but we’re still not out of the woods.
Thanks for all the good vibes.
I hope you all have a great summer break!
Hey Everybody,
There is a woman who needs a wedding photographer for a June wedding at Tybee Island (near Savannah, I believe). I can’t do it since I won’t be in town, but here is her email address if anyone else is interested: Cyndi_Clonch@HMIS.org.

I have made the card to give to Julian Cox. It is in the inkjet room so please sign it today (thursday) as soon as possible so Steve can take it at the end of the day. Thanks.
LeeAnn Foster, Director of Marketing and PR for Atlanta Celebrates Photography, asked that I post the link to the ACP Opportunities for Artists page. Pardon the redundancy if you have already seen it on the ACP web site. Cheers.

Hey,
If you are joining us at the High tomorrow to see the Civil Rights photographs:
1) Research Civil Rights in Atlanta.
2) Some of the images we will see may be by Danny Lyon, who was an SNCC staff photographer, Bruce Davidson, Ivan Massar, Bob Fitch, Bob Fletcher, Ernest Withers, Morton Broffman, Constantine Manos, and several others.
The site where Douglas is working is on Flynn Street off 14th Street (next to Masterpiece lighting).
It’s past a giant, new Mosque.
I will be there by 11:30.
When I last talked to him, Douglas was buying paint at Home Depot, so I recommend wearing clothes that might get paint or dirt on them.
Bring video and still cameras.
Someone may want to bring a medium format camera.
And film.
(as is everyone else in the world, but whatever.)
I sent some photos to the “We’re all photographers now!” show in Switzerland. They wrote me back…
“Your images were shown in the Musee de l’Elysee’s exhibit “We are all photographers now!” in the last few days. Enclosed you will find some installation views of your images that show them in the wall.”
iEl lizardo! was also shown. Thank you random algorithm!
Note person sitting on bench! That means I now have an INTERNATIONAL audience! Pretty sweet, eh? And all it took was a few clicks to submit. It’s free.
Below is a Google Calendar for coordinating time slots for working with Douglas at Solomon Projects.
E-mail me the times you would like to work with Douglas at:
saishman@scad.edu
Feel free to sign-up for more than one time slot because this is a great opportunity to work with Douglas and be seen at Solomon!
The Hot Shoes improved significantly this week but lost a close battle by the score of 5-4. Jeff “The Great Wall” Roffman had another stellar performance. Zubair “Pink Lemonade” Lawrence anchored the defense, while David “Crazy Legs” Jones and Rebecca “Team Mom” Stern put in good efforts at forward. Stacey “I wear the pants” Pickering and I provided the scoring.
Despite a herculean effort, The Hot Shoes T.T.F. lost their first match. Zubair “I play soccer in my dress shoes” Lawrence and Jeff “I stop shots with my face” Roffman played well as the goalkeepers. Kyle “Call me Cap’n” Petersen dazzled the ladies with his quick moves. Rebecca “Shades” Stern played masterfully at forward along with David “Castro McSmokey” Jones. Next game is a week from today.
This is certainly no big story, just a sad (re-)confirmation for me and anyone else who ever printed on Agfa 111 or 118 fiber paper. I went to Agfa’s web site about a month ago and found the following:
You can’t buy the film anymore you’re used to?
Films, photo paper and chemistry come and go. Quite problematic when they go and you still need some…
Agfa Aerial reaches a hand and wants to look into its wide halftone product range whether some suitable substitution film can be identified. Talk to us - send us a note! Eventually we will need a sample to fully identify the product you want.
Film technology is alive and kicking!
So yes, I realize it’s aerial halftone film… but I get the impression that they either added that after I saw it or I was just so floored by the idea that they might just have paper for me to use. So I wrote them, and asked about both of those papers. Today they responded:
Dear Mr. Pickering
Sorry to say Agfa has discontinued all fiber based papers. The only remaining b/w photo paper from Agfa is called Rapitone M2 which is a multicontrast non fiber paper. It is presently used in the aerial mapping industry for conventional b/w imaging. You can review the specifications at our web site www.agfa.com, Materials, aerial photography. Go to data sheets for Rapitone.
If you must continue to use fiber based papers, there still remains a good selection on the market. Web sites of B&H Photo and Freestyle have a wide selection. Oriental Seagull offers fiber based in both mullticontrast and graded papers.
I hope this will help your search.

ADOBE CS3
The new software combines elements of Adobe and Macromedia products, Flash/PS integration, the demise (sort of) of GoLive, and providing three different suites for print, web, and video, plus one uber-super-mega-combo version.
And “Photoshop Extended” version incorporates 3-D elements. Imagine.

Hello Everyone be at the Central City Tavern at 7ish TONIGHT! Jan 7
For food, drinks and to celebrate Dave’s and everyone who had a birthday over the break.
Carla’s was November 28
Walker’s was December 5
Dave’s is Jan 7
Central City Tavern
1900 Peachtree Rd NW
Atlanta, GA 30309
As you can hopefully tell, the Photo Awesome Club web site has finally been designed. Hopefully you like it.
A few requests:
Please limit image widths to no more than 400 pixels wide when embedding a photo. The design breaks otherwise.
Please send me (Walker) a single photograph of yours for use as a header image (the image up top should rotate). Keep in mind that there must be a place for the text. I need a file roughly 1000px wide in highest quality jpg mode… that is, unless you have the perfect cropping (600px wide by 300px are the dimensions, if you’re wondering) and don’t want to relenquish control.
To reiterate, yes, you can upload images to this site. Please be reasonable with your file sizes, and if you have an image that just has to be posted big, upload the big file, and then upload a smaller thumbnail as a link to it from the page.
I have located a place where we can probably have a SCAD photo show in May. It is at the Defoor Centre, just off of Howell Mills on Defoor road. Tim, the director of promotions said he would love to do a show of just SCAD students. It’s a little ways off obviously, but something to start thinking about.
