PhotoAwesome.com Finished… Kinda’
During this last week of what has seemed like a very short time in grad school, I have to announce the conclusion of PhotoAwesome’s unofficial relationship with SCAD-Atlanta. For all intents and purposes, PhotoAwesome.com will no longer be the place to go for updates on what’s going on in the Photography department at SCAD-Atlanta after June 1st, 2008. However, it’s pretty obvious that nothing else will fill that void until the Fall, when a new class of photo MFA candidates comes to campus and creates their own thing. So until that time, you can still consider this the best place to get updates.I only make this post now so that there’s not some kind of monumental shock for people who only rarely visit the site.
The reasoning behind this detachment is pretty simple: most of us are leaving. Again, only half true. But I’m leaving, and since the whole shabang resides on my server, I have to take it all with me. Anyone involved with PhotoAwesome over the last two years who would like the files associated with the site (whether to use to create something based off photoawesome.com or just to keep for yourself), get in touch with me and I’ll see what I can do.
Now, what will become of this place? The best we can hope for is a new life as something like Just Give Me Money, where we can occasionally check in on each other’s personal and professional lives after grad school. At worst, it will be a graveyard for the things we did in grad school. Either way is fine with me. Also, I’m open to suggestions for alternatives… alternatives involving very little effort. =)
Just as a final technical note, the system has deleted or disabled inactive accounts in the past (during a software switchover), so the best way to maintain posting access (not commenting access… that is always open to everyone) is to keep in touch. Posting a couple of times a year couldn’t hurt.
Thanks for a great two years, and happy graduation everyone!
EDIT: I almost forgot, a quick note from the comments, from our own Jason Parker: “…folks needing a fix for Atlanta visual art can get it at ArtRelish.com. It’s not SCAD- or photo-focused, but I’m here, and we can always use readers and contributors.”
ArtRelish has really been on top of things over the past year and will continue doing great things. I’d encourage anyone interested to get in touch with Jason and get involved.

Seconded on the happy graduation!
And… folks needing a fix for Atlanta visual art can get it at ArtRelish.com.
It’s not SCAD- or photo-focused, but I’m here, and we can always use readers and contributors.
Well this sucks, I’m a freshman photography major and I love coming to Photo Awesome to find out what’s going on, I’m going to miss this site a lot.
Dearest, dearest Photo Awesome,
it is with a tender heart, and a tear that Steve Jarvis and I watched your video this morning. Thank you for your extra-ordinary energy, humor, commitment and talent, you touched all of us on the Atlanta campus in remarkable ways and you set a standard of what can be accomplished across the disciplines. From all of us over in Sculpture we wish you a fond farewell with a sense of pride in having had the opportunity to be part of this wonderful 2 year journey. Your presence will be greatly missed but it is time to share that wonderful energy with others. We’ll be cheering you on at graduation.
Knock em dead you guys, you have a wonderous future ahead and we look forward to hearing about your progress.
Yes it does stand true…We truely do “love photoawesome”.
Susan and Steve.
It is possible to have a copy of the contents, at least the necessary to keep PhotoAwesome running after you leave or is a rights-reserved thing just reserved to the 2008 class?
It would be interesting just to transfer the content and keep it going on for the not-so-new students (aka Soon-to-be Second Year Grad)
Just a Thought!
Thanks so much, Walker, for all you have done to support this most excellent web site. I plan on continuing to read and post.
Oh noooo! I will certainly miss this site! I’m only in second year undergrad, and this blog has been a valuable resource for me as a photography student.
Hey Charlie,
Do you think we could create something to replace this blog, or maybe at least something for the undergrad students?
Leaving..? really? Darn.. how could this be…?
Clone yr self.. quick! We need you…
But I guess all good things come to an end..sob..sob.
This site has been ‘awesome’, seriously. I’ve enjoyed ( as have my friends and students) every bit of the videos, the range and my shameless publicity!!
You guys rock! Super rock!!!
Good luck with all the new endeavors!
We will miss you!!

Photo Awesome, CONGRATULATIONS! not only on graduation, but on bringing a community together, and sharing all your great ‘photo- awesome’ adventures. It was great to know that if I was unable to attend an event or opening I could count on you to be my eyes and ears. I will miss your humor and your candid creative views. You guys are the best!

I dunno, I know nothing about wordpress and I’m actually considering transfering to SAIC either next quarter or winter quarter. :/ (haven’t made up my mind quite yet but I really want to move back to Chicago)
But if I didn’t have any site creation duties, I’m totally in.
