Photography Lecture: Allan deSouza - Rituals in Transfigured Time

Wed. Oct. 3
4th floor.
Paraphrasing the title of Maya Deren’s 1946 film, Allan deSouza talks about his explorations of the marginalized body and social space. His photographs, as well as performances, sculptures and “paintings” made from domestic and bodily materials such as fingernails and hair, use humor and forensic techniques to “record” the racialized, gendered body in ways that suggest ritual or fetish. This event is free and open to the public
7:00pm-8:00pm EDT

If anyone would like to write an analysis piece on deSouza’s lecture and submit to Art Relish (artrelish@artrelish.com), that would be very helpful. Good for you, and good for us.
