From this week’s SCAD updates…
“New York Times magazine features SCAD photography professor
A photo illustration by SCAD-Atlanta photography professor Suellen Parker was featured on the cover of the June 17 issue of The New York Times Magazine. It marked the third appearance of Parker’s work in the publication, but was the first time her work was commissioned to appear on the cover. Three additional images by Parker appear with the story “Doctor or Drug Pusher,” which explores Drug Enforcement Administration investigations of doctors who prescribe pain medicine. View Parker’s images at www.nytimes.com/2007/06/17/magazine/17pain-t.html
The Times also created a video documenting Parker’s creative process. It demonstrates the steps involved with each work, including creating clay sculptures, photographing the sculptures as well as human models and digitally editing the photographs by combining elements. In the video, Parker likens the final step of her process to painting. View the video here .
Parker is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York with a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography and digital media. Her work is part of the “Talent Show Biennial” on display at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center through Aug. 11.”
