PhotoAwesome.com Changes

UPDATE: The site should now be functional. It’s safe to make posts and comments again. Sorry for downtime. I think this new system should be a big improvement.

If you’ve posted on the site before, you will need to login (bottom of the navigation bar on the right) and update your profile. If you have any problems, let me know.

This is just a quick note about some changes that will be occurring on the site. I’m in the process of converting the site from its current content management system (MovableType v. 2.661) to Wordpress 2.2. This has become necessary because of various backend problems that I won’t bore you with. However, I will tell you that posters should now have a little more control, AND it should be easier to make entries. That means posting links and photos and (hopefully) video should be much easier. However, I’ve never used Wordpress before, so it’ll be a learning experience for all of us. I decided to change everything now because 1) I have the time, and 2) not many people seem to be updating/checking the site currently.

I generally get this kinda’ thing done in a day or so, so please bear with me and don’t post anything super urgent/important that can’t be lost in the move. If you have something that absolutely MUST be posted/commented on, e-mail me with it after you post it and I’ll try to make sure it makes the move.

Walker, I’m trying to post something (the info for an opening @ Vaknin tomorrow June 7th) but it’s not working…and you erased me here once again!

Valentina, I hope you’ll bear with me on this. The site is essentially brand new. If you need to log in and are unable to, let me know what’s happening and I’ll try to fix it.

    Wal P,
I can login perfectly and even got a good draft of the post (and actually thought it got posted to the home) The problem seems to be from the draft to the publishing…don’t worry, Wordpress takes some time to be fully understood (I’ve been working on a blog with it and it’s awesome but sometimes not very friendly)
Again, look and feel is great!
    Paz.

    Hey Valentina,

I went ahead and published it because it’s a timely post. However, I would’ve preferred to make sure the problem wasn’t on my end. It appears you had just “saved” the entry and not actually chosen to “publish” it yet. There are two ways of doing this:

    1) Clicking “Publish” instead of “Save”.
    2) On the right-hand side of the page, there’s a box called “Post Status”, which allows you to choose “Published, Draft or Private”.

The real question, though, is are you getting any of those options at all? It’s a distinct possibility that you aren’t because I haven’t given you the right user type. I just don’t know what the capabilities of each type are yet. Please let me know if you see those options when trying to make a new post (meaning you should try to login and make a fake post to test it out). =)

The problem should be fixed now. I had assigned everyone the wrong “role” according to the system. Essentially, I would have had to approve the posts before they went live, which is dumb. It should all work now.

Also, the image you posted is wider than 400 pixels. Please resize images that are too wide before posting.
